Facebook Inc. suffered its third major outage this Season, with Customers Throughout the world Struggling to Get the Societal network or its Own Suite of services such as Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Facebook and Instagram were inaccessible on Sunday morning for many hours with both websites denying to refresh, while messages were not able to be sent or received in WhatsApp or the Messengerprogram.
Downdetector, a website that monitors website outages, reported problems using Facebook starting as early as 6.30am Sunday morning in New York. The problems changed users in Asia, Europe, and the US, according to the website.
A Facebook spokesman apologised for any inconvenience. “Earlier today, some people may have experienced difficulty connecting to the family of apps. The problem has since been solved; we are sorry for any inconvenience,” he said in an emailaddress.
The social networking networks were back up and operating at New York by 9.30am, but irate users turned to Twitter to port during the blackout.
“Okay… who broke #Facebook?” Dean Miller tweeted from New York. “What’s wrong with Facebook,” Kularakkhita asked in a tweet from Thailand. “All Facebook services are all down,” said Daniel Chernenkov at Israel.
In late January, the Instagram program crashed, and WhatsApp users worldwide were unable to receive or send messages. Last month, Facebook confronted its most widespread and persistent system outage, with users not able to access the social network for more than 12 hours.
The outages add to the woes of Facebook, already embattled by revelations it has neglected to safeguard user information or stanch the spread of hate speech, fake news and other sorts of disinformation.
