Leaving for college can be a stressful time for some students. They try to adjust to being on their own while taking harder classes and being away from family and friends. You can make the transition a bit easier by making gift baskets with items that college students you know will need or can use during their time away from home.
Instead of using an ordinary basket to hold all of the items that you include, you can put everything in a laundry basket or in a clear storage container that can be kept under the bed. Include items that are often used in classes as well as a few comfort items that students might miss from home. Examples are notebooks, pencils, pens, stickers, envelopes to write letters, and a few notes from family and friends. You could also put assorted snacks and gift cards in the container as well.
Another option would be to make a basket with items that are useful when washing clothes or taking a shower. Some college students don’t always think about the toothpaste, mouthwash, dryer sheets, and laundry detergent when they pack their belongings to leave for home. Try to include scents that the student will enjoy as well as colors or designs that the student will enjoy to make the basket a bit more personalized.
A basket idea for college students is one that includes things that they can use in the dorm room for organization. These items include putty or strips designed for walls so that the student can hang posters and pictures as well as a shoe organizer with pockets on the back that can go over the back of a closet door. You could also include a power strip, hangers, and a flashlight as these are sometimes items that students don’t think about taking to college. Snacks can be put inside the pockets instead of leaving them in containers in the room.
