Most people know, by now, that having your own, personal blog is important for branding and reaching others; however, the one thing that can really make a blog successful is often lacking for most people. What is it? Consistency. Ideally, you should create and post new content on your blog every day, but that can seem a daunting task, especially if you’re not a seasoned writer. I want to offer you some tips to help you overcome those times when you’re facing the dreaded the writer’s block and give you a list of ideas that you can always draw on for inspiration.
First of all, the best thing you can do (and I mean the very best thing) to get over writer’s block is to…write! That’s right, you need to write. Force yourself if you have to, but do it regardless of your lack of inspiration. It doesn’t have to be great quality it just needs to exist. Discipline will beat talent any day of the week, so jump in there and make those fingers ‘ll be surprised at what you can do.
It doesn’t have to be perfect to get started. So many people waste a ton of time, setting up their blog, picking their colors, deciding whether they want one sidebar or two, and no one ever sees it because they aren’t writing content!
Know what your priorities are. Sure color schemes can be good to help brand you through various sites, but what’s going to make your business thrive is the content you produce. If you find that you don’t have time for ‘t be afraid to outsource. There are some great sites out their where you can find blog designers just waiting to work with you.
I know that finding inspiration can be difficult sometimes, so I wanted to give you some broad ideas to pull from.
1. How-To’s – Everyone loves reading how to’s. In fact, people actually prefer to learn how to do something more than they like actually doing it.
2. Stories – Things happen throughout our entire day that can be turned into a teachable moment (or more). Tell the stories of your experience and start going through your day with a mindset that everything you do can be taught and has meaning.
3. Teach what you’re learning – You know, you don’t have to be an expert to teach others what you know. You just need to report it. If you’re reading a book, tell your readers what you’re learning. If you attend a webinar, break that webinar in pieces and blog them! Learn, apply, and teach all at the same time.
4. Review a product or a company – Reviews are great. Just pick a product or company that’s relevant to your theme, do a little research, and report to your readers. People love reading reviews because you’ve saved them the time of doing the research on their own.
